On May 21, Grammy-nominated country music band Old Dominion released smash-hit "I Was On A Boat That Day", scoring over 8 million listeners within the first 3 days of release. Achieving status as the 2nd most added song of 2021, the music video features boats, breakups, and Cantera Negra tequila.
What better way to kick off the summer than on a boat with great music and great tequila? You may just throw your phone in the water and not even notice that she walked away...
Old Dominion's upbeat style and approachable personality attracts fans in droves, with hits like "Break Up With Him", "Snapback", "Song For Another Time", "No Such Thing As A Broken Heart", "Make It Sweet", and "One Man Band". Their songs are perfect for singing along, which appears to be just what the doctor ordered this summer. Over 132 radio stations added the song to their rotation this week, loving the laid back breakup song that makes you smile from the inside out.
The band tossed around the idea for writing "I Was On A Boat That Day" for years before recording it. Originally discussed between the band members as a joke, comical ideas for the song just kept floating back up. When the band got together last year in North Carolina for a writing session, the hilarious lyrics flowed as easily as...great tequila. In an interview with CMT, the band said "we felt certain that the song needed to sound like a party...so we drank some tequila and went in and did our best little party dance song."
“When you listen to ‘I Was On a Boat That Day’ you are hearing us in the full joy of making music together. From the moment I counted the band off we were smiling from beginning to end. The tequila was flowing, the laughter was loud, and we knew in that moment we were creating something that would bring people as much joy as it was bringing us.” -Matt Ramsey, lead vocalist

Interestingly, the band members were drinking Cantera Negra tequila - a tequila that has a lot in common with its Old Dominion fans. Cantera Negra is a premium 100% blue agave tequila that consumers are adopting in droves. The award-winning tequila is flying off shelves, reflecting a dramatic transition in popularity away from celebrity-infused brands with a bitter afterbite and into brands with depth like Old Dominion - smooth, approachable, and social.
Cantera Negra is truly the people's tequila. It's about connecting with others on a meaningful level and really enjoying the moment.
In the post-COVID world, people are craving "real" brands with human interaction. Cantera Negra seems to be doing just that - bringing people together and making a splash. Consumer-driven demand at bars and restaurants is translating into strong demand from restaurants, bars and liquor stores alike.
Artfully blended with tequila aged in both bourbon and cognac casks, the Extra Anejo is a bourbon-lovers paradise - rich and buttery smooth from start to finish. The Anejo manifests flavors of cinnamon and vanilla, people-pleasing both tequila connoisseurs as well as new adopters. With slightly smoky tastes of butterscotch, oak and pepper, the Reposado is perfect alone or mixed into cocktails. For the pure at heart, the Silver stands out with its touch of sweetness and no-burn swallow. Even whiskey and wine sippers seem to be taking notice, finding the sippable tequilas an easy and welcome transition from their standard pour. So whether your glass is half full or sits half empty, rain or shine the tequila is fine...
